With the support of Mr Andy Straight, a group of students of 2016 decided to write and perform a new school song for Methven Primary School. Students went through the process of choosing lyrics that would represent the uniqueness of our school and local community. The lyrics also incorporate our MPS STARs and our local maunga (mountain) and awa (river) to describe our place in New Zealand. The music was then co-created and recorded with soloists chosen from a number of keen volunteers. The video that was later recorded includes many of our MPS Students and a BOT member sharing their many talents. We thank Andy for all his hard work in leaving us with a school song that symbolises our pride in MPS.
Methven Primary School Song – Making Pathways to the Stars
As the day’s first sunlight shines on Mt Hutt,
The birds begin to chirp and our little town wakes up,
Night has gone away, but we can still be stars today.
Making pathways to the stars, we’ve come from near and far,
To MPS to learn and play, make friends along the way,
Making pathways to the stars, earning stella cards,
We always give our best and we’re striving for success because we’re stars.
Ko Opuke to tatou maunga,
Ko rakaia to tatou awa,
Nau mai haere mai, haere mai to all.
Making pathways to the stars, we’ve come from near and far,
To MPS to learn and play, make friends along the way,
Making pathways to the stars, earning stella cards,
We always give our best and we’re striving for success because we’re stars.
When you come to MPS you’ll learn to be a STAR,
The right attitudes and values will take you very far.
So be sporting, trustworthy, accepting and responsible.
Making pathways to the stars, we’ve come from near and far,
To MPS to learn and play, make friends along the way,
Making pathways to the stars, earning stella cards,
We always give our best and we’re striving for success because we’re stars.
